Project Overview

This is a catalogue about art exhibitions. I made the book to  accompany the poster series and Banner.

My topic is loneliness in art.

An artist's thoughts are expressed through their ideas that get produced into their work. I selected eight artists who could sense loneliness in their artworks (poems), presented the detail of their presentations, and attempted to explain what the loneliness of art is.

Each artist’s way of expressing their thoughts is unique. Just as "a thousand people have a thousand Hamlets in their eyes." Everyone has a different life background and experiences, so their feelings about the same thing may also be different. The expression of art is usually also an expression of solitude.

In terms of typography, I explored a minimalist approach to convey a sense of loneliness, using large areas of white space to emphasize emotional distance. While the type on the title page is intentionally large in scale, its light weight reduces the potential visual aggressiveness, helping to maintain a calm and subdued overall tone for the book.

For the poster, I chose the photography of Mark Ruwedel. His exhibition of American western wilderness he captured has a very strong sense of "loneliness". On this basis, I followed the same minimalist style as the catalogue, using a lot of blank space and scattered small-sized sans-serif fonts to enhance the atmosphere of loneliness.
